SINGAPORE: The Singapore Sports Council will increase funding over the next three years for the development of wushu in Singapore.
This comes after it endorses the Wushu Dragon and Lion Dance Federation's Multi-Year Sports Plan.
The Federation held a fundraising dinner graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday evening, aimed at raising more than S$500,000 to support various wushu programmes.
It is targeting to win at least two medals in this year's Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar and four medals when Singapore hosts the games in 2015.
Mr Lee said: "The government will give every Singaporean the chance to enjoy sports, whether it's professional athletes, whether it's weekend warriors or whether it's spectators. We're implementing our Sports Vision 2030 masterplan. We're increasing our funding, going to spend S$250 million more over the next five years. And we will double our infrastructure investments, including building more community sports facilities." - CNA/xq
