Monthly claims for Government Paid Maternity leave to start from 2 August

Monthly claims for Government Paid Maternity leave to start from 2 August

From Thursday, employers and self-employed women will be able to make monthly reimbursement claims for Government Paid Maternity Leave.

For the birth of the first and second children, employers can make monthly reimbursement claims from the Government after they have fulfilled their obligations for the first 8 weeks of maternity leave.

For the 3rd and subsequent births, where the Government pays for the full 16-week-leave, employers can submit monthly reimbursement claims for leave taken by the employee from the first month onwards.

Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Halimah Yacob, said this move will enable more timely claims for the GPML.

It will be of particular benefit to Small and Medium Enterprises as well as self-employed women.

This in turn will help women in taking maternity leave more flexibly within a year from their child's birth.
