MOM investigates Downtown Line's Bugis MRT worksite accident

The Manpower Ministry is investigating if fatigue and extended working hours could have led to the accident at the Downtown Line in July.

Two workers died in the accident, after formwork collapsed during construction of a pedestrian linkway.

Acting Minister Tan Chuan-Jin said relevant action will be taken if employers are found to have breached any regulations on working hours.

Her said the incident was a stark reminder that accidents can happen at any time.

"Other areas of investigation that we are focusing on include the adequacy of the formwork structure design, the conformity of the erected formwork to the approved design and the quality of formwork structure material. In the course of our investigation, we will continue to share, where appropriate, the findings that may have impact on formwork processes at worksites to ensure work safety."
