MOH to publish total operation fees for public hospitals
The Health Ministry, MOH, will start publishing total operation fees for public hospitals on its website from September.
Minister of State for Health, Lam Pin Min, said this will improve transparency for patients and help them make informed choices.
The information will have items such as surgeon and anaesthetist fees and facility fees.
But it will not be broken down further to include "doctors' fees."
Dr Lam said most doctors in public hospitals are paid a salary by the hospitals, so there is no direct link between the Total Operation Fee and doctors' salaries.
Speaking at a medical conference, Dr Lam said publishing such data for both unsubsidised and subsidised patients will serve as a useful point of reference on procedure-related fees.
Currently, the ministry only publishes total hospital bills for 80 common conditions in both public and private hospitals.
