Ministry of Health to work with Singapore Medical Council to amend legislation which will allow key recommendations to be implemented
The Ministry of Health welcomes the review committee's recommendations on the Singapore Medical Council's disciplinary processes for errant doctors, and will work with SMC to amend the Medical Registration Act and Medical Registration Regulations.
This will facilitate the implementation of several key recommendations, such as: the establishment of an Independent Appeals Committee appointed by the minister; appointing a lawyer to all Disciplinary Tribunals; and having a Disciplinary Tribunal audit the outcome of every inquiry.
The review committee was formed in 2012 to look into improving the medical disciplinary process.
