Minister Grace Fu: Raising productivity will ensure sustainable wage growth
Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu has stressed that increasing productivity will ensure sustainable wage growth for Singaporeans.
At the Economic Society's annual forum, Ms Fu referred to the progressive wage model as an example of an inclusive growth strategy.
She noted that the model for the cleaning industry spells out clear progression of wages with skills upgrading and training.
And that allows pay increase to move in tandem with productivity gains.
"The key point to note about this plan is that it a targeted one, taking the needs of the industry, of the cleaning industry, taking the needs of all the stakeholders, the employers, the employees and the companies into consideration. We believe this is a more effective and sustainable way of helping a targeted segment of our workers."
Ms Fu made the remarks in her keynote speech about helping low income workers through continuing education and training.
