More than 2,000 personnel from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) marked Singapore's 47th birthday on Thursday with an observance ceremony on Wednesday morning.

They recited the National Pledge and sang the National Anthem, led by Defence Minister, Dr Ng Eng Hen.

During the ceremony at MINDEF, artistes from the SAF Music and Drama Company and children from Cherie Hearts @ Gombak put up a 20-minute performance, in line with this year's National Day Parade theme, "Loving Singapore, Our Home".

Staff and performers joined them to sing a medley of National Day songs.

Also present at the ceremony were Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Defence and National Development Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman, Permanent Secretary for Defence Chiang Chie Foo, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Neo Kian Hong, service chiefs and senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF.

MINDEF said all SAF units, including overseas training detachments, will also be holding observance ceremonies to celebrate National Day.
