MediShield Life to include coverage for secondary depression
Senior Minister of State for Health Amy Khor says Medishield Life will cover pre-existing conditions including psychiatric conditions diagnosed before March 2013.
She said this in reply to a parliamentary question from member for Marine Parade GRC, Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef.
Dr Fatimah had asked if the use of MediShield for secondary depression can be reviewed, as it is not a primary mental disorder but secondary to other medical or drug-induced diseases.
Dr Khor said that since March last year, MediShield coverage has been extended to inpatient treatment of newly diagnosed psychiatric conditions but not pre-existing ones.
She however added that subsidies continue to be available for psychiatric care at public hospitals.
Medisave can also be used up to $150 per day and $5,000 per year.
In addition, financial assistance including help from Medifund will be available for those who face difficulty with their medical bills at our public healthcare institutions.
