SINGAPORE: Medifund gave out S$102 million to needy patients in 2012 -- a 12 per cent increase from the year before (S$90.8 million in 2011).
Parliamentary Secretary for Health Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim gave the update on the fund, which helps patients who are unable to pay their medical bills, in Parliament on Tuesday.
He said Medifund brochures, which are available at hospitals, will soon be made available at polyclinics as well.
Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal said patients who have financial difficulties should speak to the healthcare professionals caring for them, or medical social workers.
Hospital and polyclinic staff could also take the initiative to approach patients. - CNA/nd
