SINGAPORE: Viewers of MediaCorp's Malay news, Berita, were in for a surprise as news was telecast 'live' for the first time from the heart of Ramadan activity in Geylang Serai.
The special news segment took place just outside Joo Chiat Complex.
It featured, Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah Yacob, among others at a donation ceremony with her grassroots leaders from Bukit Batok East Division.
They donated some S$2,000 to the Tabung Amal Aidilfitri (TAA) Trust Fund, a cause that aims to reach out to financially disadvantaged Muslims in Singapore.
Some S$45,000 has been raised through the TAA's donation boxes so far.
The trust fund said it aims to raise about S$1.38 million through its various fund-raising initiatives.
For the first time, the trust fund will also create 50 bursaries for its primary and secondary school beneficiaries.
