SINGAPORE: The Media Development Authority (MDA) awarded six scholarships under a revised scheme on Monday.
The scheme was revised this year to achieve the twin goals of ensuring job placement for scholars while meeting the industry’s need for talent.
One of the recipients was Wendy Wong, who was an intern at Channel NewsAsia for six months.
Upon graduation, Ms Wong will work at Channel NewsAsia.
"I love telling stories and I have a passion for writing... I think it’s really interesting that you get to experience a little bit about everyone’s lives and what’s happening around the world," she said.
The Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) and its agencies, including MDA and National Arts Council, awarded 100 scholarships this year.
One of the recipients was Mrs Lim Mei Lian.
Under the National Arts Council scholarship, the 52—year—old will be going to China for an undergraduate degree in Beijing Opera.
A co—founder of the Tian Yun Opera Society, her hope is to develop a form of Beijing Opera that will get the younger generation interested in the traditional art.
