SINGAPORE: Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong said his ministry will undertake a study to address the longer—term manpower needs of the sports sector.

Mr Wong was replying to Nominated Member of Parliament Mr Nicholas Fang who asked whether talent development in the fields of sports administration and management is a key priority for the growth of the local sporting sector.

In Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Wong said under this study, the ministry will be looking at further measures to ensure a stable supply of expertise in sports administration and management.

Mr Wong said good administration and management is important to the development of sports in Singapore.

The Singapore Sports Council currently works closely with the National Sports Associations to help them upgrade administrative and management capabilities via grants and training stints.

Mr Wong said: "In order to provide sufficient manpower with these sorts of competencies and skills, we will have to engage our universities and our institutions of higher education to look at what new programmes we will need to put in place. These are plans that we have as part of this broader manpower study."
