Masagos to attend ASEAN meeting on drugs in Bangkok

SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli will be attending the Special ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.

The Special ASEAN Ministerial Meeting follows up on the ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Drug—Free ASEAN 2015 at the 20th ASEAN Summit held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in April this year.

The ASEAN leaders had urged the relevant ASEAN Ministers to intensify efforts towards the goal of a drug—free ASEAN Community by 2015.

The abuse and illicit cross—border trafficking of drugs is a common problem in all ASEAN countries.

During the ministerial meeting, Mr Masagos will have the opportunity to discuss strategies with other ASEAN Ministers to counter the drug problem and enhance regional cooperation to eradicate the drug menace.

Mr Masagos will be accompanied by the Director of the Central Narcotics Bureau, Mr Ng Ser Song, and officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
