SINGAPORE: A man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment on Friday for having paid sex with an underage girl last year.

Loy Hee Cheng, 69, who works as a driver and repairman at a construction site, paid the then 17—year—old Vietnamese prostitute $100 for sex.

This happened at his office in the Golden Mile complex last March.

Loy was one of the men implicated in the case involving sex with underage Vietnamese girls.

Seng Swee Meng, the 42—year—old who operated the vice syndicate with his Vietnamese wife, was jailed five years in April this year.

Seng had pleaded guilty to offences that included the harbouring of prostitutes, receiving them at Changi Airport, and abetting to obtain commercial sex with minors.

In the trial involving Loy, the victim had told the court that she had met him through her pimp.

A week after she arrived in Singapore, she was told to meet at a coffeeshop in Geylang, where she was then escorted to a pick—up driven by Loy.

He then took her to buy some tissue, before heading to his office at Golden Mile complex, where they had sex.

Loy denied this, saying that he only took the girl sightseeing to places such as Mustafa Shopping Centre, Chinatown and Marina Square.

He also said that they only stopped at his office to watch television.

The prosecution said that Loy’s evidence beggared belief, and that the girl’s evidence had proven reliable and credible. She was even able to give accurate descriptions of the layout of Loy’s office.

Loy, who is married with three children, is appealing against the sentence.

For having sex with a prostitute below the age of 18, Loy could have been jailed up to seven years and fined.
