SINGAPORE: The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) began conducting search and rescue operations near Kusu Island after a man fell overboard from a passenger ferry.
At about 7.30pm on Thursday, the MPA was informed that a man had fallen from Singapore-flagged passenger ferry, the "Asean Raider 2", about 4 kilometres southeast of Kusu Island in the Singapore Strait.
The ferry was travelling from Singapore's regional ferry terminal in Harbourfront to Batu Ampar in Batam, Indonesia.
Two MPA craft, one Police Coast Guard craft and one Republic of Singapore Navy patrol vessel are involved in the search and rescue operations.
The MPA has issued urgent safety broadcast to vessels in the vicinity to keep a lookout and report any sightings of the missing person.
The MPA is currently investigating the incident. - CNA/ac
