SINGAPORE: A 27—year—old man has been charged with punching and kicking a woman, causing her to fracture her arm.
Ramadas Kanesan is accused of hurting Ms Vanija Sohan Chand, 26, at a void deck in Potong Pasir at about 9pm on 21 March this year.
He faces five other charges for offences such as theft and sending threatening text messages.
Ms Vanija was granted a personal protection order against Ramadas on 2 April.
But a month later, Ramadas allegedly breached the order by sending her a series of text messages, threatening to hurt her.
Court papers showed the messages allegedly had words like "trust me ur (your) life will end in my hand".
Ramadas is also believed to have sent Ms Vanija messages about his alleged plans to hurt her "cousin".
The messages are believed to have been sent between 12am and 5.30pm on 2 May.
On the same day, at about 2.45am, Ramadas allegedly threatened Mr Rajiv Mohan outside a flat unit in Yishun.
He allegedly told Mr Rajiv in Tamil to watch out, saying "I’ll chop you off".
Later, Ramadas allegedly smashed the headlights of a motorbike, believed to be that of Mr Rajiv.
If found guilty of hurting Ms Vanija, Ramadas can be jailed up to 10 years and caned or fined.
For breaching the protection order, Ramadas can be jailed up to six months and fined up to $2,000.
For sending threatening text messages to Ms Vanija, he faces up to seven years’ jail and for threatening Mr Rajiv, Ramadas can be jailed up to two years and fined.
If found guilty of smashing the headlights of the motorbike, he can be jailed up to a year and fined.
