SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 30—year—old man suspected of cheating retailers of goods worth over a million dollars.

Police said they received reports from several retailers in areas including Bukit Panjang, Boon Lay, Woodlands, Orchard Road and Tampines, of being cheated over the past two months.

On Tuesday, acting on information received, police arrested the suspect at Boon Lay Place in Jurong.

The suspect is believed to have deceived the retailers into believing that his debit card transactions had gone through successfully, inducing them to hand over jewellery and electronic goods.

And after the suspect left the shops, the retailers were notified by the banks that the debit card transactions had been unsuccessful.

The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday for cheating.
