Malaysia police launch a probe into "provocative" acts

Malaysian Police have launched a probe into what the government says were provocative acts at Merdeka Square.

These included stepping on the prime minister's picture and flying what was deemed as a new national flag.

The incidents happened recently at Merdeka Square, in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Investigations are taking place under the Sedition Act and penal code.

A special task force has been set up to expedite the legal process.

The Home Minister claimed political masterminds and desperados were behind the actions, as they faced defeat in the coming general election.

The minister added the majority of the people were fed up with the actions.
