M1 doubles excess data charges from January
Telco M1 has joined SingTel and StarHub in raising the rates for excess data use.
It has doubled what customers will pay if they exceed what their mobile data bundle allows.
Information on its website showed that from next month, customers will pay $10.70 for each gigabyte (GB) in excess of their data bundle.
This will be capped at $188.33 a month.
Currently, it charges $5.35 per GB, capped at $94.16 a month.
Explaining the rate increase, M1 says while it has continuously invested to enhance its network performance and reliability, calling rates have remained unchanged for over 10 years.
It has also increased the bundled value of its service plans over the years, such as more voice minutes and SMS, as well as faster surfing speeds.
M1 says the change may impact a small number of customers who use in excess of their bundles.
Customers will be notified of these changes via their December bill statement.
