Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong says the value-add of Singapore's interactive and digital media industry has grown by more than 1.5 times since 2008 - to exceed $2 billion.
He expects it to continue growing and adds that Singapore will strengthen its position in this field by investing in infrastructure, and developing and welcoming talent.
He was speaking at the opening of the Sandcrawler building, Lucasfilm's new regional headquarters in Singapore's One North.
The Prime Minister says an important element of success for the digital entertainment industry is the overall culture and environment of the society.
"The magic lies not in the equipment or the processes, but in the creative spark that resides in human minds. And these can only light up in an environment that inspires people and promotes creativity, and helps people to realise their dreams, and to dream big. And that's what we're trying to create here: to promote a spirit of inquiry, to stay abreast of global trends so that we remain relevant to the world."
The state-of-the-art Sandcrawler complex takes houses offices, a 100-seat theatre, state-of-the-art digital production capabilities and retail space.
It will carry out digital production for a slew of movies, including upcoming Star Wars films and an as yet unnamed animated feature.
Lucasfilm Singapore currently hires over 360 employees, of which 130 are Singaporeans.
