Local team Shiok narrowly edged out by Team Philippines in S’pore Ultimate Open

SINGAPORE: Local team, Shiok, were narrowly edged out by Team Philippines 11—10 in the A final of the 14th Singapore Ultimate Open.

The two—day Ultimate Frisbee competition hosted 25 teams including 11 from overseas.

It has been five years since a local team won the championship.

But Team Philippines were no pushovers, having placed seventh in a global competition.

It was a thrilling final which saw both sides go neck—to—neck for most of the game.

The breakthrough came from Team Philippines, whose brilliant game—play saw Cherry Sy(see) level the match 9—9 (all) with a spectacular leap at the edge of the endzone.

They then sealed the winning point with a hammer throw to finish 11—10.

Team Philippines captain, Kristan Guerrero, on their hard—fought victory, said: "We feel great, we work on the plan, we thought we have a plan, we were down in the first half, but we say we are gonna get it so. I’m really, really happy that everyone focused their mind on the game."
