SINGAPORE: Local drama group Avant Theatre has been invited to perform again in India.
This time, it will showcase its artistic talents in several major cities of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and Coimbatore.
Avant Theatre staged "Bhishma" — a one—man Tamil play inspired by the epic Mahabaratha, in Chennai last year.
Now, it will re—stage the play as well as put up another play "Sakuni", which will be in both Tamil and English.
A 15—member team, including artistes and crew, has been rehearsing since August.
The last time round, Avant artistes won rave reviews from the public, and praises of leading Tamil cinema directors and actors including Rajnikanth.
They hope to get an even better response this time round.
G Selvananthan, artistic director, Avant Theatre, said: "What we realised from the whole experience is there is a pool of theatre enthusiasts and audience in foreign countries who want to see local talent. As such, when they see epics like Mahabaratha as a play... (it) kind of entices them to come and watch."
