SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for National Development Lee Yi Shyan said there is inter—agency coordination to plan for necessary infrastructure ahead of demand, especially when new public housing projects are developed.
So the Housing and Development Board (HDB) works with the Land Transport Authority for the construction of rail lines, expressways and major roads.
Mr Lee said HDB also works with other agencies to provide more schools, hawker centres, health and commercial facilities in tandem with the growth of estates.
"We have learnt a lesson, internally, that we also need to plan in a longer time horizon. In other words, some of the major infrastructure such as vehicular network and rail access will take much longer time than the construction of HDB flats precincts.
"So I think that coordination for short—term construction projects and longer term planning are ongoing and we would, you know, intensify them as—and—when necessary," he said.
Mr Lee was speaking in Parliament on Tuesday.
