SINGAPORE: The last contingent of police officers has returned to Singapore from their one—year tour of duty in Timor—Leste.

They are the sixth and final Singapore Police Force contingent that is part of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor—Leste (UNMIT).

The group of ten officers returned after completing their mission to uphold the mandate of maintaining law and order.

During their time there, they also helped train the local Timor—Leste police.

In February 2010, the UN Security Council had passed a resolution allowing the Integrated Mission to gradually draw down its deployment.

This is to facilitate the hand—over of primary policing responsibilities to the Timor—Leste police.

With the conclusion of UNMIT on December 31, 2012, this contingent is the last batch of SPF officers to be deployed for this mission since the inaugural contingent in 2006.

In recognition of their efforts, the officers were conferred the Timor—Leste Solidarity Medal by the Timorese government.
