SINGAPORE: It’s a day to the Hari Raya celebrations, and last—minute shoppers were out in full force to pile on the festive supplies for the occasion.

The price of raw ingredients went up by some 10 to 15 per cent at Geylang Serai market on Saturday.

But that did not dampen the spirits of last—minute shoppers.

Shopkeepers reported better sales this year, with an increase of up to 50 per cent.

This, they said, despite the gloomy economic outlook.

Over at the Tampines Retail Park, the festive shopping mood was contagious too, with many stocking up on decorations and food items for the big day.

Megastores Ikea and Giant expect the crowd to peak on Saturday night as both stores will stay open till late.

"Actually I am busy making cookies, I do not have time to shop. Since I was nearby, I dropped by to grab last—minute buys for Hari Raya," said one shopper.
