SINGAPORE: Member of Parliament (MP) for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Dr Intan Azura, has said the People’s Action Party (PAP) government is committed to help Singaporeans start a family and have children, and has been doing this for a long time.
She said the recent changes introduced in the enhanced Marriage and Parenthood package showed the PAP government’s commitment to helping Singaporeans have and take care of their families.
At the PAP’s rally for the Punggol East by—election on Thursday night, she stressed that the changes were not made by just rhetorically talking about them or by sitting down for a few minutes thinking about them.
She said a lot of time was spent listening to and working with Singaporeans — those who have just settled down, those who are just starting their families, or with older children, as well as the employers themselves.
Dr Intan added that the focus on the family is also what Dr Koh Poh Koon, the PAP candidate for Punggol East by—election is championing.
The MP said she understands the challenges of starting a family and raising children, and the challenges as a working parent and that Dr Koh has stepped up to serve residents of the ward so that he can help create the future.
