Khaw reminds shopkeepers to keep outdoor areas clutter free
National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan says a recent check by the authorities has found that one in four shops in the HDB heartlands has infringed the guidelines for outdoor display areas.
Mr Khaw wrote on his blog that some shopkeepers have gone overboard in the run-up to the Chinese New Year by indiscriminately stacking and displaying goods that spill over the spaces designated for outdoor displays.
He says this can greatly inconvenience shoppers and hinder traffic flow or, worse, compromise the fire safety of residents.
Mr Khaw says most shopkeepers will promptly take corrective action when remined, but adds that summonses have been issued for a handful of serious cases.
