Jurong Gateway Safety Group to promote workplace safety

SINGAPORE: A group has been set up in the Jurong Gateway area to promote workplace safety and health.

The Jurong Gateway Safety Group consists of the five developers with projects in the area.

The contractors involved will soon be invited to the group.

Stakeholders of new developments will be brought onboard subsequently as more land parcels are awarded.

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Hawazi Daipi said the Workplace Safety and Health Council facilitated the setting up of the group.

He said safety groups have proven to be successful in raising awareness of safety issues.

More importantly, he said, the developers and contractors themselves initiated many sharing sessions and produced good practices.

He encouraged the Council to help set up more of such groupings at other construction clusters, such as in the Paya Lebar and Punggol areas.

Mr Hawazi was speaking at an international conference at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands.
