SINGAPORE: Some 30 members of the Inter—Religious Organisation Singapore (IRO) gathered on Friday to pray for the victims of last week’s US school shooting incident.
Twenty—year—old Adam Lanza had walked into Sandy Hook Elementary school and gunned down 26 people, including six—and—seven—year—olds.
The inter—faith prayer was conducted by religious representatives of the 10 religions in Singapore.
Among the guests were Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs, Mr Masagos Zulkifli and United States Ambassador to Singapore David Isaac Adelman.
Four CHIJ students also brought with them drawings expressing their condolences to those who lost their loved ones.
President of IRO Singapore Sister Maria Lau Wai Ling said: "IRO has always prayed for people but in different ways. Sometimes, we pray for them at the beginning of our session. For instance, for the Sikh shooting, we prayed at the Sikh temple. Sometimes we pray at the embassy. It varies but IRO has always been involved in praying for people caught in tragic situations."
