IDA looking to make changes to internal wiring framework to ensure better quality of work

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, IDA, is looking to make changes to the internal wiring framework for telephone lines.

The framework will be expanded to include the installation of other types of cables, such as the Nationwide Broadband Network's optical fibre cables.

IDA says homes and offices now have different types of telecommunications cables, aside from the telephone lines.

It adds that the proposed changes aim to ensure the proper installation of the various types of cables in homes and offices through trained and qualified contractors.

Under the proposed changes, licensed workers will have to meet the standards set for internal wiring works.

End users will be able to go to IDA's website to look for licensed workers to install or expand the cabling within their premises.

They can also contact IDA if they're not happy woth the quality of work done, allowing the authority to investigate and order contractors to rectify the defects.

A month-long public consultation exercise on the proposed changes opened today.
