Howard Shaw is free man again

Former executive director of the Singapore Environment Council, Howard Shaw, has been released from prison after serving his jail term.

A prison spokesman said Mr Shaw was released today.

The 41-year-old grandson of Shaw Organisation's founder had served eight weeks of his 12-week jail term, which started on 5 October 2012.

A prison inmate in Singapore is granted a one-third remission of his prison sentence, and can be released after serving two-thirds of his sentence if he has not breached prison discipline.

Mr Shaw was sentenced on July 30 this year for having paid sex with an underage girl.

He was the 12th person to be sentenced in the high-profile online vice ring case involving the girl, who was then 17 years old.

He had appealed against his sentence but subsequently withdrew the appeal.
