The National Environment Agency (NEA) will from today, provide hourly updates of the PSI reading from 7am to 7pm daily to keep the public informed more regularly of the haze situation.
NEA said the increase in hotspots over Sumatra in the past few days has led to hazy conditions in Singapore.
This morning as at 8am, the PSI across Singapore was in the range of 64-75 (moderate).
As at 3pm, the PSI was at 45 (good).
Although the current PSI readings have not reached an unhealthy level, people with heart or respiratory ailments, the elderly and children are advised to reduce physical exertion and outdoor activities.
NEA said the direction of the prevailing winds have changed from southwesterly to southeasterly/ southerly since yesterday evening. This has brought about improved air quality and visibility.
NEA said the change in wind direction is expected to continue over the weekend.
NEA however added that for next week, hotspot activities are expected to prevail in southern Sumatra due to the dry weather conditions.
It warned that Singapore may still experience hazy conditions on some days if the wind direction changes to southwesterly.
