SINGAPORE: During this festive season, some hospitals are taking special measures with their patients in mind.
Over at Ren Ci Community Hospital, its focus is on trying to discharge patients whose conditions are more stable.
That, however, will only be done with special consideration.
Since the majority of its patients are elderly, care after discharge can be a bit more complicated.
The hospital has therefore provided special arrangements for families and caregivers.
Dr Lee Liang Tee, clinical director of Ren Ci Community Hospital, said: "We also advise family members on what are the things to look out for in order to maintain the patient's health, such as diet restriction. They have to pay attention to certain diet considerations, such as for diabetic patients.
"We understand that during festive seasons, people tend to eat a little bit more. We have to advise them to exercise a little bit of control in terms of their sugar intake, carbohydrate intake."
But for those who have no choice but to stay in, Tan Tock Seng Hospital has gone the extra mile to provide that festive feel, to include lion dances and visiting patients with Mandarin oranges. - CNA/ms
