HGST Singapore cuts 530 jobs
SINGAPORE : 530 staff at HGST Singapore, a Western Digital company, have been retrenched.
In a statement, Executive Secretary of United Workers of Electronics & Electrical Industries, Mr Heng Chee How, said the union was informed by HGST early last month of their plans to enhance competitiveness.
Mr Heng said the union is saddened by this retrenchment exercise but understands that the company faces keen challenges to maintain cost competitiveness.
HGST said it will ensure fair compensation and treatment for the affected employees.
The Union and the Employment and Employability Institute will be organising a targeted job fair on January 16 at the institute for the affected workers.
