HDB ordered 6 projects to compensate for delay over last two years
Six contractors had to pay liquidated damages for delays to seven HDB projects in the past two years.
Minister of State for National Development, Desmond Lee, said they were made to do so because of poor project planning, coordination and execution.
In reply to a parliamentary question by Pasir Ris-Punggol MP Gan Thiam Poh, he said that over the last two years, 36 HDB projects were granted some form of time extension.
The reasons include changes in design beyond contractors' control, or exceptionally inclement weather.
Mr Lee was also asked by MP for Chua Chu Kang, Zaqy Mohamad, if the tightening of foreign worker numbers had added to the delays.
"What we've done to help contractors is to defray the cost of mechanisation, upgrade their workers' skill levels. In addition, HDB has introduced various initiatives, such as pre-cast techology, system foamwork, to cushion the impact, and to drive up productivity in the HDB sector."
