HDB embarks on second phase of development for Punggol town

HDB is embarking on the second phase of development for Punggol town.

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the plans are expected to take Punggol through the next five to fifteen years and beyond.

He made the announcement at the HDB Awards ceremony today.

As part of Phase Two, HDB plans to increase the number of apartments in Punggol from the current 26,000 to nearly 100,000 in the future.

This will make Punggol twice the size of Ang Mo Kio town.

These new apartments will be built in waterfront housing districts around Punggol.

There will be seven distinctive housing districts in total.

The Northshore and Matilda Districts are likely to start development first within the next five years, subject to demand.

The Northshore District will feature Singapore's newest seafront public housing, facing the Straits of Johor.

The district will also have the tallest residential buildings in Punggol.

Residents can also look forward to the new Punggol Downtown.

Some of the new plans include introducing a Learning Corridor, designated to house future educational institutions.
