Haze may worsen next week: Vivian Balakrishnan
The haze may worsen next week.
This is according to Environment and Water Resources Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan.
Dr Balakrishnan said the hot spots in Sumatra are increasing dramatically again with 458 visible as of yesterday.
And though some rain is expected, it will not be enough to douse the fires.
Dr Balakrishnan revealed this in a strongly-worded Facebook post last night.
He said Singapore would try to encourage Indonesia to take action.
But noted that for Indonesia, the welfare of close neighbours is not a priority, calling it a hard truth of regional politics.
Paper company APRIL has warned of an increase in burning in Indonesia, citing the early start of the burning season.
The company reported 55 fires near its plantations in the first five weeks of this year.
APRIL is Asia's second-largest pulp and paper maker and has extensive plantations and operations in the Riau province of Sumatra in Indonesia.
