SINGAPORE: Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Dr Yaacob Ibrahim said that having dedicated ministries to focus on key areas is the right move as challenges in the future will be complex.
Dr Yaacob was commenting on the recent Cabinet changes announced on Tuesday.
Come November, the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) will be renamed the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI).
Dr Yaacob will continue to head the ministry.
"There is a greater need now for people to understand government polices better, so we need to be able to communicate not just in terms of the policies but to look at different platforms and how we communicate and different segments," he said.
"Increasingly, there are different groups with different interests so this is very important work for us in the next five, ten years that we need to do and therefore I think this restructuring allows us to apply our minds more to deal with some of these challenges."
