Govt gave $167m in assistance towards Town Councils' operating costs last year
The government provided $167 million in assistance to Town Councils last year to help them with their operating expenses.
In a blog post, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan says this translates to about 36 per cent of the town councils' expenses of $470 million.
The assistance comes in two forms: S&CC grants to the town councils and S&CC rebates for residents.
Last year, the S&CC grants amounted to $90 million.
In addition, the S&CC rebates amounted to $77 million.
Mr Khaw says this year some $170 million in S&CC grants and rebates will be given.
As S&CC rebates offer more help for those living in smaller flats, residents pay 8 to 25 per cent less in S&CC as a result.
HDB households which qualify will receive a letter this week with details of the rebates they will receive.
