Good that NTUC acted quickly on staff, says DPM Tharman

Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam says it's good that the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) acted quickly on the staff who posted offensive comments on her personal Facebook page.

Mr Tharman said in a post on his Facebook page on Monday afternoon that the person's comments were offensive not only to Malay-Muslims, but to the rest who value Singapore's multi-racial spirit and who want to take it further.

He also highlighted the statement by NTUC Secretary-General Lim Swee Say on the decision to sack Assistant Director of the Membership Department, Ms Amy Cheong.

She was sacked on Monday (8 Oct), a day after she posted offensive remarks on Malay weddings at the void deck.
