Good politics should continue regardless of political affiliation, says MP Jessica Tan
MP for East Coast GRC Jessica Tan says constructive politics is about putting Singaporeans first, and President Tony Tan's reminder on the need for constructive politics is timely.
Ms Tan says whatever the policies and strategies under discussion, what's important is not only how efficient they are, but what they can do, and what they mean to the people they are meant to serve.
She says regardless of party affiliation, good politics should continue.
"But when a policy is not landing so well, we need to listen to the ground, we need to hear our people. We need to have dialogues. We need to have conversations. They matter. And we need to hear that. And from that, refine the policies. And I think that's what constructive politics is about."
Ms Tan also called for early intervention and specific support for disadvantaged groups so they too can enjoy social mobility.
This, she says, means having to go down to the preschool level to enable those in more disadvantaged positions to get a good starting point, and to allow many paths for success.
Ms Tan also stressed the importance of continuing economic development for job creation.
And she has urged companies to restructure and tap the local workforce.
