GlobalFoundries Singapore laid off 150 Employees
Semiconductor giant, GlobalFoundries, has laid off about 150 employees since the start of the week.
They represent less than 2.5 percent of the some 6,000 staff in Singapore.
The US-based company says it's part of its effort to "streamline its global workforce to improve competitiveness".
Responding to queries from 938LIVE, a GlobalFoundries spokesperson says the retrenched personnels are mostly support and non-technical staff.
The spokesperson says all affected employees were provided appropriate support during this transition.
The company says it's also cutting staff elsewhere.
Its global headcount of 13,000 will be reduced by three per cent.
Apart from Singapore, the company has manufacturing facilities in Germany and New York.
