Getting more youths to contribute to the community and society will be one of the priorities for the new Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth (MCCY).

Senior Minister of State for Education Lawrence Wong, who'll be taking up the role of Acting Minister of MCCY come the 1st of November, made the comment today.

Mr Wong, who is also the Senior Minister of State for Information, Communication and the Arts, spoke while visiting the youth belt at Orchard Road.

One of the issues the new ministry will need to address is how youth participation and volunteerism tend to taper off once people leave school and enter university and start work.

So the ministry will look at continuing to engage youth leaders, to help it take the lead in organising initiatives to contribute to society.
