Former Minister Mentor Lee visits brother’s wake

SINGAPORE: Former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew visited the wake of his younger brother Freddy Lee Thiam Yew on Friday evening.

The late Freddy Lee, 85, died at his home on Thursday evening. He had been suffering from cancer, according to his family.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew said: "There were five of us in the family, four boys and one girl. Now that two boys have gone, I’m left behind with my youngest brother and my sister Monica. We were a close family, and Fred was especially active, but that’s life."

The late Freddy Lee was the former chairman of stockbroking firm J. Ballas and Company. A former police officer, he was the second youngest brother of Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s second brother Dennis Lee Kim Yew died in 2003 from kidney cancer.
