Former IRAS officer jailed for cheating, thefts and CBT

SINGAPORE: A former officer of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) who stole from his ex—girlfriend and cheated her father has been sentenced to 28 months’ jail.

Joshua Koh Kian Yong, 28, admitted to six counts of cheating, three counts of theft and one count of criminal breach of trust.

The prosecution proceeded on four of the 10 charges.

Koh committed the offences between November 2009 and August 2012.

The amount involved totalled $158,946.50.

Koh stole $45,000 worth of Hong Kong currency from his then—girlfriend, Ms Yeung Ting Ting, 25.

He also duped Ms Yeung’s father, Mr Yeung Hon Ming, 61, into giving him $98,400 to invest in shares.

Koh used the money on personal expenses.

At the time of these offences, Koh was working as a valuation officer at IRAS.

Between July and August 2012, when he was working at Docu Connex, he misappropriated $45,896 worth of IT equipment and shopping vouchers belonging to the company.

Koh made restitution of $10,084 to Docu Connex.
