SINGAPORE: A fire broke out on Saturday morning at Block 501 Street 11.
No one was injured.
The fire took place in a unit above a UOB branch.
In response to queries from Channel NewsAsia, a UOB spokesperson said the branch was not affected by the fire but was closed due to fire rescue efforts and for the safety of customers.
They said the branch will resume normal operations on Monday.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the fire was confined to the unit’s bedroom but the rest of the unit was engulfed by smoke.
Firefighters also had to use force to enter an adjacent unit as thick smoke had enveloped the corridor and spread to the unit.
They said this was to ensure that no one was trapped or had been overcome by smoke.
It’s not known what caused the fire.
