Eleven people were injured when a fire broke out at East Village Hotel along Marine Parade Road this morning.

They include -- four children, five adults and two fire-fighters.

They were sent to the Singapore General Hospital for treatment.

MediaCorp understands that the four children and two of the adults are from the same family who came to Singapore from Pakistan for a holiday.

The mother, who's suffering from asthma, is being treated for smoke inhalation.

SCDF said one of the firefighters suffered heat exhaustion, while the other sustained burns to his hands after he tripped and fell.

SCDF's Public Affairs director Lieutenant-Colonel Abdul Raze said it took five hours to put out the fire and was one of the more challenging fires in recent years.

Its firefighters used foam to tackle the blaze, which started in the basement of the retail annexe.

Mediacorp understands that the blaze could have started in a restaurant under renovation.
