SINGAPORE: Fire and snow do not always go together but organisers of next year’s annual street parade, Chingay, will be using these to pull off a dramatic finale.
The street parade on February 22—23 in Marina Bay will be the grandest in size, involving about 10,000 performers from more than 120 organisations.
One part of the parade stretch will be turned into an Ocean of Fire and another stretch will be all white and snowy —— as part of the theme "Fire In Snow".
The People’s Association, which is organising the event, hopes to bring in more beneficiaries this time round —— from 5,500 this year to 6,000 next year —— so that more people will be able to catch the parade.
Yam Ah Mee, chief executive director of the People’s Association, said: "The theme next year for Chingay 2013 is ’Fire In Snow’. This theme clearly exemplifies whatever challenges we may face; we’re always ready as a society, as a community, with the resilient spirit, with togetherness, we can overcome whatever challenges we may face."
"It’s very good to see many Singaporeans and the communities coming together, performing in Chingay, celebrating, bonding together as one."
"And with the theme of ’Fire in Snow’, it showcases the resilient spirit of all of us Singaporeans —— we can move together as one, as we continue to prosper and progress as a nation," Mr Yam added.
