The number of people who became property agents fell by about 27 per cent last year.
The Council for Estate Agencies, CEA, says some 3,300 people took up the profession in 2013.
That brought the number of property agents to some 31,000.
Last year, CEA had issued licences to 1,492 estate agents and registered 31,040 property agents.
However, 88 property agencies and some 3,300 property agents said that they did not want to continue with their work this year.
