Family-friendly workplace practices good for companies
Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu says adopting family-friendly workplace practices is in companies' commercial interests, as this will help them attract and retain talent.
She was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a visit to OCBC Bank, a local company that has family-friendly practices.
Citing a recent NTUC survey, she said that the top 3 priorities employees look out in the workplace for are the accessibility of flexible work arrangements, family care leave, and a work culture that supports families.
"It is good for business, it is good for the country, it is good for society, and this is actually what employees want. They want to achieve both family and work objectives, and they need employers to show that they are able to flexibly meet their needs over their life cycles."
She added that in order to meet the needs of an ageing society, as well as a slow labour growth scenario, Singapore will need to keep its people in the workplace for as long as possible.
Many surveys have also shown that a family-friendly workplace is the way to manage career and family objectives.
And this will in turn support the government's marriage and parenting objectives.
